Anawangin Cove

Zambales is a province known for its beaches.  Since it is relatively near Manila, it is an ideal getaway for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.

On May 19-20, 2012, we decided to spend our summer break in Anawangin.  We booked a tour in sulit.com.  Since we were plenty, we only paid Php 2,000.00 per person.  We met in SM North Edsa At around 5 o’clock in the morning.  We left for Anawangin on time.  After two stop-overs, we arrived at Anawangin Cove at around 11 o’clock in the morning.

Anawangin is a crescent-shaped cove located in the town of San Antonio, Zambales.  The getaway to Anawangin is via Pundaquit village.  From Pundaquit, you can either hike for 4-6 hours to reach the cove or take a thirty-minute boat ride.

Pine trees provide nice shade to campers

Anawangin has a beautiful beach with clear waters.  The sand is similar to lahar.  It was said that the beauty of this cove was shaped by the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991.   Instead of the usual coconut trees ling on the shore, you will notice a lot of pine trees in the area.

Once you arrive in Anawangin, you will notice that the cove is raw – no electricity, no running water, and no cell phone signal.  You will really feel that you are away from them all.  It is indeed a good place to relax.

I like how the waves bring me to the shore...

There are several things to do once in Anawangin.  You may go directly to the beach and swim, sunbathe, play beach sports like beach volleyball.  It is also suggested that you try climbing the hill on the left side of the cove (left side if you are facing the beach).  The top of the hill gives you a nice view of the cove and sea.

For those planning to visit Anawangin, remember that it is not a place for those looking for luxury and comfort.  Although there is a store on the cove, it is advisable to bring everything that you need before going to Anawangin.  Have fun and enjoy your summer!
