Beijing Day 1: Hotel-Breakfast-En Route to Temple of Heaven

We woke up around 6 o'clock in the morning to prepare ourselves for a looong day of walking.

Our itinerary for the day was:
  1. Temple of Heaven
  2. Forbidden City
  3. Tiananmen Square
  4. St. Joseph's Church
  5. Kung Fu Show

We left Happy Dragon Hostel at around 7 o'clock in the morning to look for a place to eat breakfast.

We walked around the morning market near the hostel and observed the locals.  They sell everything in the market: from scorpions to strawberries, nut to beans, and whatsoever.

After walking for about ten minutes, we finally found a McDonald's outlet and decided to eat breakfast there.  Since English is not widely used in China, we had a little problem communicating with the crew.  So, we just made turo-turo our order, and bahala na si Lord kung masarap yun.

Chinese Mcdo!
Hooray for today!

After eating, we went to the Dong Si MRT Station to catch a train to our first destination: The Temple of Heaven.

*Commuting in Beijing via MRT is relatively easy.  The signs and maps are written in English.  Additionally, the price of an MRT ride is cheap (2 yuans or roughly Php 12 pesos/ride regardless of the distance).

To get to Temple of Heaven from Happy Dragon Hostel:
  • Walk towards Dong Si Station (Line 5)
  • Take the MRT and alight at Tiantan Station and walk towards the Temple of Heaven...
